So this weekend just been was the 2010 Melbourne Orchid Spectacular – that I have been looking forward to for the last few weeks since I found out it was on. I got the whole of Saturday to myself *virtually unheard of !!!* to go see. It was a bit of a mission in itself to get to, us not having a car here in Melbourne – but luckily the public transport is pretty good, especially with the help of online journey planner. So an hour and a bit later, train, a bus transfer and some walking and I managed to make it to the Springers leisure center in the middle of what felt like Palmerston north or Otaki – my first time in the year we have been over here to make it into zone two of Melbourne suburbia.
And it was well worth it indeedy! – Way bigger than any of the shows I have been to held in NZ, even with all the native Australian orchids not yet in season in this part of the country…. I have that to look forward to in the next show at the end of September, distance permitting!
I even managed to get my greedy little paws on a couple of new Cymbidiums and a slipper that I now can enjoy every day in my lounge and will get to paint from in the flesh – so much more satisfying than reference photos! Here are a couple of overall pics from two of the stalls at the event, as well as some pics of my new plants for home…. Will put a few more pics of winners from the show once I have had some time to go through and sort them – I managed to take about 500 pics before my freshly charged camera ran out of batteries…. about half way around the show – So may take a bit of time to edit and catalog them with their info etc. So in the meantime enjoy the ones below :
