Archive for November, 2009

A few pieces I have been working on while visiting family and friends back in Wellington.  The pink moth orchid  and the green Cymbidium were painted from reference photos of my plants from before I had to regretfully re-home them for our move over to Melbourne. And the very impressive slipper orchid belongs to a dear dear friend of mine who very generously let me spend a day at her house painting it while it was in flower – personally my experience of growing slipper orchids has been a bit of a failure, I managed to kill the only one I ever attempted to grow and haven’t tried since… So a big thank you to friends who have greener thumbs than me!

So up in Auckland on the 11th November 2009,  DC Shoes and Loaded presented the Asia-Pacific launch of the newDC x Royalefam collection designed by renowned Singaporean sneaker artist SBTG .

In conjunction with the event and to celebrate the role of collaboration in culture, DC selected 20 artists from around NZ and Australia to participate in an art competition.  The selected artists used a blank skateboard deck as their canvas to create their own unique artworks for the show, and I was one of em.

My board placed third, which was pretty cool – but the best part was being part of a collaborative exhibition with the likes of  Component and Enforce 1 from Cut collective, Teva Chonen, Gene Kirkpatrick and Liam Gerrard.  Decks were all of really high quality.

So it seems to be that time come mid 20’s-30’s where all my friends have decided to jump in and get hitched.
This is a collection of works I have created for these very special events – some as gifts from me, as well as a few pieces commissioned by friends for their loved ones.
And really, if your gonna be spending that hard earned cash of yours on that perfect gift, a painting is definitely gonna be a wee bit more original and thoughtful than that toaster off the registry list at Briscoes!

Commission work is available for wedding or other special gifts, The time it will take and pricing is dependant on size and style of work.
Please feel free to contact me at  mightymouselikescheese@gmail.com if you have any queries.
